Ties have been worn around the necks of millions of business men daily for decades. People wake up every morning and have to decide what tie they would like to wear with whatever attire they have chosen to wear that day. This has been the routine ever since World War I, when ties were hand painted and were up to four and a half inches wide! They have evolved from the cravat worn by people back in the 1600's and now there are many variations of the popular tie. The tie has changed its appearance in the last hundred or so years. The tie started out being very flamboyant and rather huge, but they soon changed. Thanks to the British the US had stripes introduced to them at the start of the 20th century, only the stripes were cut in the opposite direction. The tie then changed in the 1960's giving into the new 'pop art' designs. Ties then slowly began to be sold with shirts, and the designers started to experiment with some bolder colors. As ties evolved, some derivatives of it were spawned. Back during the industrial revolution it became needed to have something that could be worn around the neck that was both comfortable and easy to work in for an entire work day. The bow tie was created to be a much smaller, more convenient version of the cravat that could still be formal. It consists of a ribbon of fabric that is tied around the collar in a manner that the two opposite ends will form a loop at either end. Bow ties can be made of a variety of fabric and have a vast difference in looks. The traditional bow tie may also be known as a 'self-tie' bow tie to distinguish it from the modern version. Since the ability to make ties out of many different kinds of fabric exists, people often buy silk ties. Silk is a natural protein fiber, and it is known for its very smooth feel. Silk ties are especially wanted because silk is a very valuable, beautiful, and soothing fabric. They add a pretty shine to your tie and make you stand out as a more professional figure among your peers. Mens ties have always been made out of different types of fabric, including silk, cotton, polyester, or wool. Since it was much more expensive to make a silk tie entirely out of silk, the lined tie with other tipping fabric was created. Also, many different kinds of colors for the tie have come along.
